Ingredients
- ½ cup of red or yellow lentils
- 1 cup of basmati rice
- 3 tablespoons of ghee
- 3 cups of water
- 1 finely chopped medium-sized onions
- 1 teaspoon of grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon of minced garlic
- 1 finely chopped green chilli
- 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon of coriander powder
- ½ teaspoon of cumin powder
- ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder
- Salt to taste
- Freshly chopped coriander leaves
Ghee Rice Dal Preparation: Instructions
- Rinse the lentils and rice separately with water until the water runs clear. Soak the lentils in water for 15 minutes and rice for 30 minutes.
- In a kadhai, add ghee over medium heat. Then add Hing and cumin seeds and let them splutter for 5 seconds.
- Add finely chopped onions and sauté them until they turn translucent.
- Add in grated ginger, minced garlic and chopped green chilli. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the raw smell of chilli and garlic fades.
- Then, add the soaked and drained dal to the kadhai. Stir well to mix everything well together.
- Pour in lukewarm water, reduce the heat to simmer, and let the dal cook for 10-15 minutes or until partially covered.
- Then add soaked rice to the pot along with coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, black pepper powder, and salt. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients.
- Cover the kadhai with a tight-fitting lid and let the lentils and rice cook on low heat for another 15 minutes or until they are cooked, and water is completely absorbed. Check and stir occasionally and add more water if required.
- Once the dish is ready, fluff it up with a fork. Garnish it with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve this delicious delight with one teaspoon of warm a2 gir cow ghee with A2 dahi, papad, or pickle.
